To fulfill their responsibilities for providing public bus, trolley, trackless trolley, rapid transit, and (since 1964) commuter rail services to the Boston metropolitan area, the MTA and MBTA have been administered respectively by a board of public trustees and board of directors, both served by a general manager and a treasurer. The treasurer has submitted weekly financial statements to the MBTA board. Series consists of statement copies as maintained for reference by the general manager.
